Recreational Ball Fields, Autauga County, Alabama

As part of a collaboration with the Central Alabama Electrical Cooperative, and Sain Associates, Kelly Landscape Architects produced both Masterplanning and Phase I construction documents for this 60-acre public recreational facility.  The masterplan includes the planning for baseball and soccer fields, a network of trails and associated parking.  The masterplan also included locating a future YMCA on the property.

Homewood Patriot Park

This 13-acre site is centered in the West Homewood residential neighborhood on the site of a former par-three golf course that has always been a popular place for outdoor activities such as “We Love Homewood Day”, picnics and pick-up games of all kinds.

When programming the future park plan, the most asked for park amenities were a perimeter walking circuit, the main lawn, site lighting for extended use, restrooms, pavilions, playground, and an irrigation system for maintaining the landscape.

The plan incorporated all of the program elements as well as much more including an entrance plaza for future flag placement as well as a connector walk to the city senior center and a bio-swale for natural on-site treatment of stormwater. The Phase I site improvements to include the above amenities were completed in December of 2012.

Moss Rock Preserve, Hoover, Alabama

Located in Hoover, AL, KLA was retained by the City of Hoover to first document this unique natural land feature then develop a three-phased trail system that would allow the city to utilize national conservation corps groups to build out the plan. The master planned trails were to use all best management practices with the design so as to reduce the increasing erosion problems at the regional destination park.
